The goalThe course is designed to provide fundamental knowledge in the area of general chemistry and represents the basis for all other courses in chemistry and chemical technology. Students are introduced to fundamental chemical concepts, atomic structure, types of chemical bonds, structure of ionic and molecular compounds, metals and alloys. Also, students are familiarized with the properties of dispersed systems (solutions) and the basic concepts of chemical kinetics.
The outcomeUpon completion, the student should understand: basic chemical concepts and principles; the relationship between the electronic configurations of atoms and molecules and their chemical properties; the concept of chemical kinetics. The student also developed the ability to solve various stoichiometry problems and to work safely and efficiently with common chemicals, laboratory equipment and basic laboratory operations.
