The goalThe goal of course is acquiring knowledge about basic bioprocess (enzyme and microbial fermentation). Student learns to calculate: kinetics parameters, reactor volume and reaction time using experimental data. Novel types of bioreactors are explained.
The outcomeStudent learns to determine kinetics of enzyme and microbial fermentation using experimental data from different reactors. Student learns to calculate (for ideal reactors) volume and mean residence time, and based on that to propose best organization for two and more rectors. Student obtains knowledge about novel reactors e.g. reactors for tissue engineering.
    Contents
Contents of lecturesKinetics of enzyme fermentation. Calculations of ideal reactors for enzyme fermentation. Kinetics of competitive and non-competitive inhibition. Kinetics of microbial fermentation. Calculations of ideal reactors for substrate limited growth and product poisoning kinetics. Optimal setup of two and more reactors. Novel bioreactors and their use.
    Contents of exercisesProblem solving.
