    The goalMain aim of the course is that student acquires basic knowledge about mass transfer phenomena and mass transfer operations, including calculations.
    The outcomeThe student will learn about mass transfer phenomena for the first time. Also, student will obtain knowledge about principles of five different mass transfer operations and about calculations connected with them.
    Contents
    Contents of lecturesMOLECULAR DIFFUSION: 1. Fick’s law; Mass transfer general balance equation; Equimolar counterdiffusion; Molecular diffusion of A through stagnant B; CONVECTIVE MASS TRANSFER: 1. Convective mass-transfer coefficient; Dimensionless numbers and dimensional analysis; INTERPHASE MASS TRANSFER: Overall mass transfer coefficients and driving forces, Types of contactors; ABSORPTION: Basic principles, Operating line, Theoretical number of trays, Transfer units; DISTILLATION: Simple distillation methods, Simple steam distillation, Equilibrium distillation, Simple differential distillation; RECTIFICATION: Distillation columns with trays, Operating lines, McCabe-Thiele method of calculation for number of theoretical stages; LIQUID-LIQUID EXTRACTION: Triangular coordinates and equilibrium data, Single-stage equilibrium extraction; DRYING: Simultaneous heat and mass transfer, Kinetics of drying.
