The goalMechanics, metallurgy and elements of metal processing technologies.
The outcomeKnowledge on mechanics and structure control under different metal processings conditions.
Contents of lecturesTheory of plastic deformation and principles of deformation processing. Homogenization (heterogenization) of casts. Hot, warm and cold deformation affected structure changes. Rolling: Type of rolling mills. Mechanics of rolling and pressure calculations. Elastic deformation of rolls. Front and back tension. Controlled hot rolling. Defects in rolling process. Extrusion: Types of extrusion process. Mechanics and presure calculations. Tooling. Extrusion defects. Drawing: Mechanics of drawing and drawing force calculations. Determination of maximum drawing reductions. Overview of deformation processing parameters and properties of metals and alloys.
Contents of exercises1. Rolling: Rolling bit and calculation of bit angle, arc length, neutral angle. Calculation of rolling presure. Experimental determination all of the relevant rolling parameters on cold rolling mill. 2. Extrusion: Calculation all the relevant parameters using empirical or semiempirical models for pressure calculations. 3. Wire drawing experiments on draw bench using different drawing die angles and lubrication conditions. Calculations of drawing schedules.
