The goalIntroducing students to the specifics of natural polymers. In this course, students will gain knowledge on how to separate and obtain natural polymers, their modification and their behavior as materials - properties, application and degradation. Students will be especially acquainted with benefits of natural polymers in comparison to synthetic regarding their reproducibility as raw materials and their environmental aspects - biodegradability, non-toxicity, etc..
The outcomeStudents are familiar with natural polymers, their properties and applications as materials. Student is familiar with their difference with respect to synthetic polymers, is able to identify and compare the properties of natural polymers relative to synthetic. Student knows the specifics of their use and methods of manufacturing the products based on natural polymers
    Contents
Contents of lecturesIn this course students will learn about natural polymers, their division and classification, as well as procedures for their modification and use of such materials. Students will become familiar with the specific degradation of these polymers. The chapters are: monosaccharides, polysaccharides, polyphenols, polyterpenes, unsaturated acids, fats and oils, amino acids, proteins, degradation of natural polymers.
Contents of exercisesconsists of laboratory exercises - extraction of natural polymers from natural products through different methods , modification of natural polymers, analysis of aging and degradation of natural polymers.
