    The goalThe subject comprises two interconnected fields: descriptive geometry and technical drawing.The course is adapted to the students of the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy, and the fundamentals of descriptive geometry are covered to the extent necessary for construction of technical documentation. Technical drawing introduces the students into procedure of working out technical drawings with all necessary graphical information.
    The outcomeThe subject is conceived to give the students an introduction to comprehension of graphical technical documentation. The topics covered by this course will enable the students to apply the gained knowledge in further courses at the Faculty and in engineering practice - through adequate use of graphical technical documentation and cooperation with engineers from other branches.
    Contents
    Contents of lecturesIntroduction, fundamentals of graphical communication in engineering. Orthogonal and axonometric projections. First and second parallel. Transformation procedure - projection of line as a point and determining the true size of a triangle. Rotation around an axis in space. Development of patterns from cyllindrical surfaces - application on components of pressurised equipment. Types of sections on technical drawings and principles for section plane selection. Dimensioning - basic rules, examples. Surface quality (roughness) and tolerances. Assembly and part/production drawings. Drawing of elements with threads. Simplified representation of pipeline elements. Drawing of pipeline systems in axonometric view and in orthogonal projections. Basic principles of drawing of technological schemes-layouts. Working out of technical documentation. Software packages for engineering drawing.
    Contents of exercisesExamples from technical descriptive geometry. Orthogonal projections - examples, Examples which include application of transformation procedure (introducing the transformation plane and formation of transformed projections, viewing along a defined direction, viewing the angle between two planes). Rotation around a defined spatial axis. Drawing the pattern (mesh) of a cyllindrical body. Drawing the orthogonal projections - hidden edges. Forming detailed drawings of the models (sections, dimensioning). Application of surface quality and tolerance marks in technical drawings. Drawing of detail part drawings based on the assembly drawings. Forming the axonometric view of a pipeline based on its orthogonal projections. Basic commands and steps in software package for technical drawing - examples. Checking of students' graphical assignments.
