The goalThe course provides an understanding of surfactants properties and behavior in aqueous solutions, and how this behavior can be used to stabilize different types of dispersed systems and changed the properties of solid surface.
The outcomeAfter the students fulfilled all the requirements and passed the exam, they are acquired knowledge on surfactants and their properties; they are capable to choose a proper surfactant for different industrial application.
Contents of lectures1. Surfactants: structure, properties and classification. 2. Association of surfactants, micellization, surfactants in water and organic solvents. 3. Surfactants-polymer interaction; polymeric surfactants. 4. Role of surfactants in wetting, washing and solubilization. 5. Application of surfactants in formulation and stabilization of emulsions, micro- and nano, foams. 6. Role of surfactants in controlled release devices. 7. Surfactants in personal care and cosmetics. 8. Surfactants in pharmaceutical formulations. 9. Surfactants in agriculture.
