The goalLearning theoretical and practical principles of colour measurement. Obtaining necessary knowledge for the application of objective (instrumental) colour measurement methods in industrial setting (production), with the aim of adequate control and adjustment of textile finishing processes, as well as objective quality assessment of textile materials and products. Knowledge on colour measurement methods is nowadays necessary tool for adequate communication with other subjects within the production and retail chain of textile products.
The outcomeBy learning basic concepts of colour measurement (visual assessment, instrumental colour measurement and colour evaluation methods), students are able to apply engineering approach to the quality assessment of dyed (or bleached) textile materials and products. Students obtain practical knowledge necessary for working in industry (textile product colour development; sourcing; merchandizing; etc.).
    Contents
Contents of lecturesThe course gives basic theoretical principles (spectral reflectance curves; standard illuminants and observers; colour parameters; colorimetric systems) and practical colour measurement methods (spectrophotometer; colorimeter) which are necessary for the use in textile industry. Special attention is given to the whiteness measurement, colour differences measurement (applicability of various formulas) and to the colour sorting systems for industrial use.
Contents of exercisesEnable that students apply in practice the knowledge obtained through the theory lessons, by using reflectance spectrophotometer - colorimeter (whiteness measurement and colour coordinates measurement).
