The goalThe aim of the course is to introduce the students to the principles of action of pharmacologically active compounds and pharmaceutical formulation.
The outcomeThe students acquire basic knowledge in pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmaceutical technology with the emphasis on formulation of different types of dosage forms.
      Contents
Contents of lecturesThe course includes the following: introduction to pharmaceutical chemistry, drug design and development, active substances/active pharmaceutical ingradients, prodrug, bioisosters, excipients in pharmaceutical dosage forms, physico-chemical characterization of active substances/drugs (the acid-base properties, lipophilicity, ionisation) physical and chemical stability, pharmaceutical formulation and dosage forms, modern drug delivery systems.
Contents of exercisesThe seminary work includes: drug characteristics (therapeutic characteristics, chemical name, pharmacopoeia name, INN, structural formula, CAS etc.), overview of laboratory and industrial synthesis, proposal of optimal synthetic pathway (scheme, explanation, reagents), proposal of the dosage form manufacturing, overview of raw materials, pharmacological action and significance.
