The goalThe aim of the course is to provide students with fundamental knowledge about technological process of making castings through the process of preparing raw materials, tooling, molding, melting and casting metal, all to finishing and quality control.Student should also be familiar with computer graphics drawing and design tools and to gain a clear idea of the industrial mode of the legal profession.
The outcomeStudents will be able to set up a task in the field of casting by engineering aproach at the way the methodology set stage for its solution, and become capable of independently developing technological project of this kind.
        Contents
Contents of lectures• General concepts in-casting scheme technological flow of materials and energy to the classification of equipment and procedures • calculation of the necessary materials, energy, ancillary materials and equipment for production • smelting and metal processing in different furnaces and procedures • pouring liquid metal and the appearance of the contact zone of the metal-mold • properties and application of refractory material in casting • technological casting processes • modeling and design of castings and tooling • quality control of castings • summary: possible positions within the profession, the future of metal casting and new technology, links with other disciplines, environment
Contents of exercisesPractical classes consist of: a) experimental and demonstration exercises in foundry metal casting lab and in some of the major foundries, b) the arithmetical exercises in preparation for batch melting and refining of metals in different aggregates and procedures, calculating of the gating system ,tools design and making of energy and materials balance for casting production c) demo sessions in the virtual modeling of casting processes and tools through CAE techniques.
