Understanding procedures for developing and characterising rubber mixtures and determination of the properties and quality of elastomeric products. Mastering processes for the production of elastomers and rubber tires. Rubber tire life cycle assessment.
      The outcomeStudents are able to design elastomers and rubber tires depending on the required performance of the material/product.

      Contents of lecturesThe course covers: Introduction - importance of elastomers. Structure and properties of natural and synthetic rubbers. Non-rubber components of rubber mixtures and rubber mixture formulations. Crosslinking systems. Structure and properties of elastomers. Rheology of elastomers. Application and selection of eleastomers. Rubber processing operations. Type and design of rubber tires. Production of rubber tires. Properties of rubber tires. LCA of rubber tires.
      Contents of exercisesDetermination of viscosity by a Mooney viscometer. Research paper.
