The goalThe objective of the course is to familiarize students with the science and engineering of adhesives applied in various branches of industry, as well as in medicine and dentistry. Introduction to the most important natural, synthetic and biological adhesives, methods of synthesis, characterization and most important applications is foreseen.
The outcomeStudents are introduced to the basic principles of the science of adhesion-theories and mechanisms of adhesion, as well as the structure, properties, methods of obtaining adhesives. Based on this knowledge, they are able to make an effective selection of the optimal adhesive for the desired application, as well as to select and apply the optimal adhesive production process.
      Contents
Contents of lecturesIntroduction to adhesive technology. Theories of adhesion. Testing of adhesive properties. Adhesive materials for biomedical applications. Acrylates for dental applications. Biocompatibility of dental adhesives. Silicone adhesives for medical applications. Epoxy аdhesives. Pressure-sensitive adhesive. Biological adhesives. Functional adhesive trend for assembly industry.
Contents of exercisesDemonstration exercises on synthesis and characterization of materials using modern methods. Solving tasks that give insight into the synthesis, properties and characterization of polymeric adhesives, in order to gain complete knowledge of the application of adhesives in the fields of construction and electrical engineering, as well as medicine. The purpose of the seminar paper is to enable students to become acquainted with the latest achievements by analyzing literature and scientific papers in order to gain a fuller understanding of this field. Solving problem and tasks related to the calculation of adhesive bonding and selection of optimal adhesive materials.
