      The goalThe aim of the course is toget knowledge about goals and limitations of modern instrumental methods of chemical analysis. Considering the large number of available instrumental methods and combined (hybrid) instrumental techniques, the analyst must learn to compare the characteristics of each method and select the most appropriate one for specific application. He should also know all the possibilities of hybrid methods and use them in quantitative and qualitative analysis.
      The outcomeAfter this course the student will be able to choose and apply the most appropriate method for the analysis of real samples, to properly prepare the sample for the analysis, to interpret the obtained spectra, and to do qualitative and quantitative analysis.
      Contents
      Contents of lecturesAtomic absorption and emission spectroscopy, chromatographic methods (chromatography on paper, gel, gas, liquid and ion chromatography), mass spectrometry, tandem mass spectrometry, combined methods (gas-mass, liquid-mass, induced coupled plasma with mass detector, temperature desorption-mass spectrometry, inductively-coupled plasma with isotope analysis), electron spectroscopy and other methods for testing solid samples and surfaces.
      Contents of exercisesQualitative and quantitative analysis of samples by gas and liquid chromatography, ultraviolet, infrared and mass spectrometry, atomic absorption and emission spectroscopy.
