    The goalIntroduction to metals and alloys suitable for packaging applications. Principles of packaging materials processing. Secondary sheet metal forming proceses and selection for particular type of cans.

    Contents of lecturesHistory of Canning. Quality of metallic materials used in different packaging applications (can types or coatings). Processing of metals and alloys for packaging application. Introduction to sheet metal forming: (i) bending, (ii) deep drawing, (iii) stretching. Steel types for packaging (stainless steel and tinplate steel). Canning technology. Aluminum and aluminium alloys (1xxx, 3xxx and 5xxx wrought alloys) for packaging.
