    The goalTo introduce students to elementary processes of organic chemical technology to obtain basic knowledge needed for an understanding of other processes in the industry. Mastering of material and energy balances.
    The outcomeThe student knows the elementary processes of the organic chemical industry, relevant parameters or process monitoring, and most important raw materials of the organic chemical industry as well as the ways to obtain them and apply them.
    Contents
    Contents of lectures1.Introduction. Origin and production of naphtha. 2. Chemical composition and classification of naphtha. Physico-chemical properties of naphtha 3. Naphta processing; basic processes and the most important products. Primary and secondary processes of naphtha processing. 4. Atmospheric and vacuum distillation. 5. Thermal and catalytic processes of naphtha processing. Thermal and catalytic cracking, hydrocracking, reforming, alkylation, rafination, coking, pyrolysis. 6. The most important products of naphtha. Biofuels. Lubricants. 7. Bitumen. Road structure and construction. Asphalt; additives and recycling of asphalt. 8. Natural and synthetic gas. Coal.9. The technology of intermediate compounds: methanol, formaldehyde, styrol. 10. Olefins. polyethylene, polyvinylchloride, ethylene oxide, ethylene glycol, polypropylene, propylene oxide. 11. Water requirements. Water treatment processes, water softening, ion exchange, wastewater treatment.
    Contents of exercisesStudents learn the calculations of mass and energy balances for all areas listed in the program of lectures, especially in the area of obtaining intermediate products, and water treatment calculation for specific industrial processes.
