      ESPB7.0Status
ConditionPrerequisite for enrolling in the course is the successful completion of Analytical Chemistry and Organic Chemistry.Облик условљености
The goalThe overall goal of the course is to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge regarding the analysis of environmental samples. After completing the course students should understand the problems related to the analysis of complex samples, they should be able to perform sampling, select and apply the appropriate method of chemical analysis, and to process and interpret the results of the analysis.
The outcomeThe students should gain theoretical and practical knowledge about analysis of the environmental samples. They should develop the capacity to recognize the analytical problem and to select the appropriate method for its solution. The students should master the techniques of sampling, sample preparation and chemical analysis. Through written and oral seminar presentation they should improve the communication skills.
      Contents
Contents of lectures1. The specificity of the chemical analysis of environmental samples. Legislation. The main steps of the analytical procedure and validation of the analytical method. 2. Analysis of water pollutants: sampling and sample preparation. Determination of inorganic water pollutants - classical methods of chemical analysis, spectroscopy and ion chromatography. Determination of organic water pollutants - non-specific methods, spetroscopic methods, gas and liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, and hybrid techniques. 3. Analysis of air pollutants: ambiant air and stack gas sampling. Chemical analysis of air pollutants - standard methods of analysis of gases and particles. 4. Analysis of soil pollutants: sampling methods and sample preparation. Chemical analysis of soil samples.
Contents of exercisesLaboratory exercises: Calibration of instrumental method: external standards method and standard addition method. Water analysis: iron by colorimetry and spectrophotometry; heavy metals by atomic absorption spetroscopy; COD; chlorine and phosphate content, phenols by liquid chromatography, pesticides by liquid chromatography - mass spectrometry. Air analysis: sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide. Analysis of soil samples: moisture, pH, heavy metals by atomic absorption spetroscopy. Written and oral seminars related to environmental analysis.
