      The goalThe aim of the course is to familiarize the students with the production and application of building materials based on their properties. Objective is also to introduce to the students the characterization, quality control of building materials and environmental protection in their production and use.
      The outcomeStudents are taught the principles of production, implementation and testing of construction materials.
      Contents
      Contents of lecturesCeramic building materials based on clays, Inorganic binders (cement, lime, gypsum) and concrete, Building stone, aggregates and fillers, Inorganic materials for waterproofing protection, Inorganic materials for thermal, acoustic insulation and fire protection.
      Contents of exercisesExperimental work - Raw mix preparation and batch calculations for Portland cement; determination of granulometric composition; X-ray analysis of cement; Testing of textural characteristics and microstructure of ceramic; Test for setting time of cement; Testing of mechanical properties of concrete - testing of bending and compressive strength; Demonstration exercises - testing of plaster binders, building ceramics, stones and aggregates in accordance with European standards in accredited laboratories.
