The goal | Getting to know the specifics of polymers as carriers of active ingredients and packaging materials. ; Exploring the diffusion properties of polymers for these applications. ; Training students to choose an appropriate polymer material and to determine the possibility of its use.
The outcome | Student knows the specifics of diffusion in polymeric materials and is able to make the necessary measurements to determine the relevant value of the diffusion of various chemical species. ; The student is able to suggest certain modifications of materials to achieve the desired diffusion characteristics
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | ; The course deals with the diffusion properties of polymers, including the diffusion of gases, vapors and liquids in solid polymers and polymers in the melt, as well as the diffusion of the polymer chains. Students will be introduced to the techniques of measurement of permeability, diffusion and solubility in polymers, matrix swelling, heat and mass transfer. The second part of the course refers to the barrier properties of polymers and besides introducing the polymer membranes will allow the student to determine the optimal polymer material that supports the role of the active substance and product packaging. ; ; ; The course deals with the diffusion properties of polymers, including the diffusion of gases, vapors and liquids in solid polymers and polymers in the melt, as well as the diffusion of the polymer chains.
