The goal | 1. Recognizing the importance of automatic control in chemical and other process industries, and the role of chemical engineers in this field. ; 2. Acquiring the basic theoretical knowledge on process dynamics and control. ; 3. Understanding the basic practical aspects of automatic control in process industries. ; 4. Learning about the necessary instrumentation in process industries ; 5. Learning about and practical implementation of the necessary mathematical tools. ; 6. Learning about and practical implementation of modern software tools in solving engineering tasks related to process control ;
The outcome | Qualifying the students for: ; - Working in automated plants of process industries. ; - Participating in specialized teams for designing control systems for process industries ; - Attending advanced courses in the area of process dynamics and control. ;
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | 1. Introduction: basic definitions, basic principles and basic elements of control systems. ; 2. Process system as an object of process control: dynamic characteristics in the time, complex and frequency domains; simple examples of characteristic processes in process industries. ; 3. Instrumentation: measuring instruments, final control elements, controllers and additional equipment. ; 4. Feedback control: the working principle, conventional controllers, dynamics, stability, design, critical analysis. ; 5. The basic practical aspects of automatic process control. ;
Contents of exercises | Exercises in a computer laboratory, using MATLAB and its additions: Control System Toolbox, Simbolic Math Toolbox and Simulink. The practical lessons are organized in line with the theoretical lessons. The students are solving specific problems which have been addresses during the theoretical lessons.
