      The goalIntroducing process-technological aspects of obtaining metals from secondary raw materials. Acquiring engineering knowledge required for further training in the field of metal recycling, technology design and environmental protection.
      The outcomeStudents can independently perform engineering calculations, use the computer programs for thermodynamic and energy-balance calculations. Engineering knowledge to further theoretical and experimental activities in extractive metallurgy and metal recycling.

      Contents of lecturesThe aim and the importance of metals recycling. Recycling in the developed world. Determination of resources, organization of collecting and preparation of scrap metal. Collecting, sorting and preparation of iron waste for metallurgical processing. Shredding. Metallurgical processing of iron waste. Collecting, sorting and preparation of aluminum waste for metallurgical processing. Metallurgical processing of aluminum waste. Copper scrap, old copper shavings, slag, refrigerators, sorting and preparation. Metallurgical processing by melting. Collecting, sorting and preparation of the battery waste for metallurgical processing. Metallurgical processing of lead waste. Collecting and processing of waste battery. Norms, the legal framework, European Declarations. Economic and environmental aspects of recycling.
