The goalUnderstanding elementary dyeing theory and dyeing practice of textile materials. Acquiring knowledge necessary for understanding and managing the textile dyeing processes. Accommodation to work in industry by combing the knowledge acquired during familiar courses (Textile fibers, Fiber science). Establishing the solid basis for further knowledge development through team work and multidisciplinary approach to the solving of engineering problems in practice.
The outcomeEstablishing engineering principles for managing textile dyeing process in industrial practice. Obtaining necessary skills for using laboratory equipment and test methods for evaluation of dyeing outcome and quality of dyed textile materials.
      Contents
Contents of lecturesThe course provides a thorough knowledge of dyestuff nomenclature, principles of dyeing theory and practice of dyeing technology of textile materials, based on the principle of coloristic classification of dyes. From the point of view of main parameters of dyeing quality (levelness and fastness), the course combines theoretical study with appropriate examples from industrial practice, which are being explained on defined substrates i.e. different textile fibres. It provides detailed study of dyeing equipment from the aspect of its applicability in terms of the substrate and dyeing class used.
Contents of exercisesPracticals provide opportunity to apply the knowledge obtained through theoretical lessons in laboratory. The knowledge provided covers: practice of dyeing different substrates (cotton; wool; polyamide; polyester); influence of dyebath composition (concentration; chemicals additions; presence of textile auxiliaries) and dyeing parameters (time; temperature; dyebath ratio) on dyeing quality (levelness; fastness).
