The goal | This course provides a current knowledge on various heat treatments of metallic materials altering their properties, which often results from a phase transformations taking place during these thermal processes. It describes the most common heat-treatment operations producing a particular microstructure in commercial alloys that will yield the predetermined combinations of their properties.
The outcome | Students will be able to apply the appropriate heat treatment operations to a different structural components, tools and welded structures, to meet the optimum properties for their service life.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Consider the details of a variety conventional and advanced heat-treatment operations including stress-relief annealing, homo- and heterogenizing annealing, recrystallization annealing, full annealing, spheroidizing, isothermal annealing, normalizing, quenching and tempering, ageing and surface hardening illustrated with the numerous case studies.
Contents of exercises | Covers diverse topics related to heat-treating equipments, safety procedures, heat treatment and chemical heat treatment techniques that may be used to solve the actual problems through the control of the microstructure and in turn properties of various structural components.
