ConditionPrerequisite for enrolling in the course is the successful completion of Environmental Analysis.Облик условљености
The goalThe objective of the course is for students to master the necessary knowledge and skills to solve a specific analytical problem. An analysis of the trace of a substance in environmental samples is a complex analytical task, so a student must master the techniques of sampling, sample preparation, clean-up, preconcentration and determination of analytes by a suitable analytical technique.
The outcomeThe students should develop the skill to choose a suitable analytical method, master the experimental technique of its utilization and to explain the problems that have emerged in their work. Also, through the public presentation of the seminar, students develop the ability to define the problem, present the solution and critically evaluate the results of their work.
      Contents
Contents of lecturesIntroduction. Quality assurance of measurements: traceability, uncertainty, validation of the analytical method. Calibration methods. Trace element analysis: sampling and sample storage, sources of sample contamination and analyte loss, analyte concentration. Instrumental methods: atomic absorption spectroscopy, atomic emission spectroscopy and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry. Trace analysis of organic pollutants: sampling and sample storage, sources of sample contamination and loss of analytes. Methods for isolation and preconcentration of analytes from liquid and solid samples. Instrumental methods: gas and liquid chromatography with mass spectrometric detection. Analysis of emergent pollutants from environmental samples
Contents of exercisesLaboratory exercises: Determination of cadmium and lead traces in water: extraction and analysis by atomic absorption spectroscopy. Determination of trace elements in water by inductively coupled plasma - mass spectrometry. Determination of pharmaceutical residues in water: solid phase extraction and analysis by liquid chromatography - tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Determination pesticide residues in water: dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction and LC-MS/MS analysis. Determination of sterol residues in river sediments: ultrasonic extraction and LC-MS/MS analysis. Written and oral seminar related to analysis of trace of specific pollutant from environmental matrices.
