The goal | The aim of this course is to educate students about basic principles of the testing the physical and mechanical properties of textile material using different methods and to learn to apply the law of statistics when processing the measuring results. Additionally, the course aims to develop the ability to apply basic engineering knowledge in assessing the quality of textile materials.
The outcome | Students are trained to independently conduct experiments for determining the physical and mechanical properties of textile materials, with proper data processing, interpretation, and evaluation of the measurement results.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | The course provides knowledge on the methodology for preparing textile materials for testing, along with a selection of the most important and commonly used methods for testing their physical and mechanical properties. The course includes: standard testing conditions, sample conditioning methods, and sampling techniques. Methods for testing include dimensional and structural characteristics, resistance to various external forces, friction, abrasion, sorption, thermal, and electrical properties of different textile materials. The course also provides knowledge of mathematical statistics necessary for the suitable interpretation of measurement results when testing various properties of textile materials and for assessing the efficiency of the manufacturing process.
Contents of exercises | Practical lessons include the determination of physical and mechanical properties of textile materials. For yarn, tests are conducted on fineness, thickness, twists, tensile properties, coefficient of friction and tensile deformation components. For woven and knitted fabrics, tests are conducted on density, thickness, surface mass, tensile properties, puncture resistance, recovery from creasing and abrasion resistance. Within the practical lessons students apply the elements of the mathematical statistics in the processing and analysis of the test results of textile materials.
