The goal | The aim of this course is to inform students on the procedures of modern industrial bookbindery finishing; to train them to manage and to improve bookbindery department; to inform them on the forms of paper and cardboard packaging; to teach them how to make certain forms of paper and cardboard for packaging; to inform them on the most important properties of paper and cardboard as packaging material; to make them capable to manage and improve department for production of paper and cardboard for packaging. | |||
The outcome | The student is qualified to organize and manage the procedure of bookbindery finishing of the most complex graphical products, as well as to participate in the process of production of the paper and cardboard packaging units. | |||
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Classification of covers for books and other similar publications. Components of the bindings and bound books. Graphical finishing as a technological process. Basic finishing operations. Properties and application of bookbindery materials. Production of paper-soft covers. Production of cardboard-hard covers. Covering systems. Finishing of newspapers and magazines. Classification of packaging paper, cardboard and pasteboard. Classification of packaging products made of paper, cardboard and pasteboard. Properties of packaging paper, cardboard and pasteboard of importance for their application in packaging industry. Method of production of packaging material from chromoboard. Method of production of corrugated cardboard. Method of production of packing material from pasteboard. Methods of production of paper bags and sacks. | |||
Contents of exercises | Calculation exercises. Demonstration of technological process for production of the books with paper-soft covers and cardboard-hard covers. Visit to a printing shop to learn more about modern technological processes for finishing of printed publications. Visit to a factory manufacturing paper and cardboard packing. Classes, calculation exercises, demonstrations, seminar paper. | |||
