        The goalThe aim of the course is to adopt the latest knowledge related to modern polymer biomaterials used in medicine, pharmacy and dentistry, as well as to master the strategy of selection of biomaterials for a defined application.
        The outcomeKnowledge of the most important properties and applications of polymeric biomaterials in medicine, pharmacy and dentistry. Principles of medical device design. Ability to select the optimal polymeric biomaterial for the desired field of application.
        Contents
        Contents of lecturesPolymeric biomaterials-origin, structure, properties. Methods of testing polymeric biomaterials. Biodegradability and mechanisms of biodegradation-polylactides and polyglycolides. Polymeric biomaterials sensitive to stimuli from the external environment - "intelligent" hydrogels. Hydrogels based on poly (2-hydroxyethyl (meth)acrylate), gelatin and alginate. Hydrogels for use in controlled release systems of active agents. Bioadhesion. Bioadhesives in dermatology, surgery and dentistry. Polymeric biomaterials in tissue regeneration. Antimicrobial polymeric biomaterials. Biofunctionality. Medical device design.
