The goal | The aim of this course is to study the kinetics of homogeneous and heterogeneous reactions, the nature, structure and geometry of the phase boundaries of heterogeneous reactions.
The outcome | Through this course students will learn the basic kinetic laws of metallurgical processes. Kinetic characteristics of the process of oxidation, reduction, dissociation, processes in the metallurgical melts, and the principles of kinetic constants determination.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Homogeneous reactions: General principles of homogeneous reactions. Heterogeneous reactions: Heat and mass transfer. Diffusion. The first and second Fick's law. Division of heterogeneous reactions: solid-gas, solid-liquid, solid-solid, liquid-gas, liquid-liquid. The effect of the structure of solids on the reaction rate. Errors in the structure. Nature and structure of the phase boundary. Geometry of the phase boundary. Development of the process on the surface of the partition and in the bulk of reagents. Process kinetics of metallurgical melts. Process kinetics in solid phase. Rate of heterogeneous reactions. Mathematical models of heterogeneous reactions depending on the degree of reaction as a function of time. Diffusion and kinetic controled. The law of addition time-mixed kinetics. DTA, DSC, TGA - (for kinetics) in the kinetics of metallurgical processes. Kinetic characteristics of the process: oxidation of metals and alloys; decomposition of carbonates, metal sulfide, carbonyl and carbide combustion and reduction of oxides. Alloying of metals.
