The goalIn many industrial processes considerable ammounts of waste and toxic materials are generated. Significant financial resources are necessary in order to control, dispose, recycle or destroy these wmaterials. The objective of this course is to provide students with knowledge about other possibilities of obtaining the product with desired characteristics, and at the same time prevent the formation of harmful by-products to a greater extent or completely. Special attention in the course will be devoted to the possibility of using the carbon dioxide as a green solvent and medium for generating micro-and nano-particles with the display of a series of "green" processes protected by patent applications in the last 20 years.
The outcomeBased on the knowledge attained in this course, students will be able to propose processes with minimal adverse impact on the environment.
    Contents
Contents of lecturesThe principles of green chemistry can be applied in all fields of chemistry and chemical technology, especially in the synthesis based on the application of new types of catalysts as well as the existing synthesis based on the drastic changes of the reaction conditions and the reaction medium. Special attention in the course will be devoted to the possibility of using the carbon dioxide as a green solvent and medium for generating micro-and nano-particles with the display of a series of "green" processes protected by patent applications in the last 20 years. The possibilities of supercritical water oxidation process in the processing of chemical waste will be thoroughly discussed. The focus will be on the processes and procedures that are economically justified and technically feasible for implementation.
Contents of exercisesStudy research work includes literature survey on selected topic, seminar writing and experimental work on one of the laboratory facilities for high pressures processes in the field of application of supercritical carbon dioxide as a green solvent.
